Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace: Premier League – Match Preview

Manchester United open their Premier League campaign off at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

United have made just the one signing so far, adding midfielder Donny van de Beek from the Dutch side Ajax.

They were beaten by Aston Villa in their only pre-season fixture, going down to a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park last weekend.

Crystal Palace opened their season with a 1-0 win over Southampton, with Wilfried Zaha scoring the games only goal.

Southampton dominated for long periods, however failed to find a way past an inspired Vicente Guaita.

Match history
Crystal Palace became the first side in Premier League history to score an injury time winner at Old Trafford in the meeting last campaign, with Patrick van Aanholt’s goal earning a 2-1 win.

United won the reverse fixture though thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Team news
Paul Pogba missed United’s one pre-season fixture having tested positive for Covid-19 during the break.

Van de Beek is expected to come straight into the XI, having impressed in the friendly defeat to Aston Villa.

Eberechi Eze could make his first Premier League start here, however that could be the only change from the Southampton win.

Michy Batshuayi is unlikely to start, but will put Jordan Ayew under pressure for the striking role in the team.

Expected starting XI’s
Manchester United (4-3-3): De Gea; Wan Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Matic, Fernandes, Van de Beek; Greenwood, Martial, Rashford
Crystal Palace (4-5-1): Guaita; Ward, Kouyate, Dann, Mitchell; Townsend, McCarthy, McArthur, Eze, Zaha; Ayew
