Liverpool vs. Arsenal: Premier League – Match Preview

Two sides with 100% records meet at Anfield as the Premier League champions Liverpool entertain Arsenal.

Liverpool’s solid start to the defence of their title continued with a 2-0 win away at Chelsea last weekend.

The red card to Andres Christensen before half-time was the turning point, with Sadio Mane scoring twice in the second half

Liverpool also progressed in the EFL Cup, thrashing Lincoln City, whilst Arsenal also qualified, beating Leicester City at the King Power.

Arsenal weren’t at their best last weekend, however still edged past West Ham United for a second win from two.

Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to score the late winner.

Match history
Liverpool eased to a 3-1 win when the pair met last season, with Mohamed Salah scoring twice.

Arsenal did recover from a goal down to win the reverse fixture though and also edged past Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield this season.

Last five Premier League meetings
Arsenal 2 Liverpool 1 – 15/07/20
Liverpool 3 Arsenal 1 – 24/08/19
Liverpool 5 Arsenal 1 – 29/12/18
Arsenal 1 Liverpool 1 – 03/11/18
Arsenal 3 Liverpool 3 – 22/12/17

Team news
Joe Gomez could be fit enough to return here, however after an impressive display in central defence, Fabinho could continue.

Jordan Henderson was forced off in the win over Chelsea, but should be fine to start.

Kieran Tierney is a big doubt having suffered an injury in the warm-up prior to the West Ham victory.

The left-wing back role is between Bukayo Saka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with the latter’s defensive ability perhaps likely to see him start.

Expected starting XI’s
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Thiago, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
Arsenal (3-4-3): Leno; Luiz, Gabriel, Tierney; Bellerin, Xhaka, Ceballos, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang
