Tottenham vs. Manchester City: Premier League – Match Preview

Manchester City start the defence of their title with an away trip to Tottenham in the final game of the opening weekend.

Tottenham appointed Nuno Espirito Santo in the off season, after the Jose Mourinho experiment failed badly.

Cristian Romero and Bryan Gil are the high profile additions; however the future of star man Harry Kane remains uncertain.

Manchester City’s only signing thus far has been the British record £100 million addition of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

They have been heavily linked with Kane and are expected to make further bids before the end of the window.

Match history
Tottenham beat Manchester City 2-0 in the meeting last term, thanks to goals from Heung Min Son and Giovani Lo Celso.

City got revenge with a 3-0 home win and also defeated Spurs in the EFL Cup final.

Last five Premier League meetings
Manchester City 3 Tottenham 0 – 13/02/21
Tottenham 2 Manchester City 0 – 21/11/20
Tottenham 2 Manchester City 0 – 02/02/20
Manchester City 2 Tottenham 2 – 17/08/19
Manchester City 1 Tottenham 0 – 20/04/19

Team news
None of Tottenham’s new signings are likely to be in the XI for the visit of Manchester City.

Kane is yet to feature in pre-season and there is real doubt whether he will be in the squad.

Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne are both injured, whilst Aymeric Laporte is currently in isolation given the Covid-19 protocols.

Quite a few of the Manchester City squad went far in the Euros and Copa America and their involvement here is unclear.

Expected starting XI’s
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Tanganga, Sanchez, Dier, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Skipp; Moura, Dele, Bergwijn; Son
Manchester City (4-3-3): Ederson; Cancelo, Dias, Ake, Mendy; Gundogan, Rodri, Fernandinho; Mahrez, Torres, Grealish

Result: Manchester City
There has been heavy upheaval at Tottenham this off season and Manchester City are big favourites

Correct Score: 1-3
Manchester City thrashed Spurs last time the two met in the league and another comfortable win looks likely

Anytime Goalscorer: Riyad Mahrez
Mahrez has four goals against Tottenham in his career and will be confident of adding to that
