Manchester United vs. Tottenham: Premier League – Match Preview

Fifth meets third on Wednesday evening as Manchester United welcome an in-form Tottenham to Old Trafford.

Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Newcastle United on Sunday.

Joelinton missed two good chances for Newcastle; however they were hanging on towards the end with Marcus Rashford spurning a superb opportunity.

Tottenham recorded a seventh win in 10 this season as they comfortably beat Everton on Saturday.

A Harry Kane penalty was doubled by a late Pierre-Emile Højbjerg effort.

Match history
Manchester United won both meetings last term, including a 3-2 home success with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick.

Spurs do have two recent wins at Old Trafford though, most notably a 6-1 win back in 2020, with both Heung Min Son and Kane scoring twice.

Team news
Christian Eriksen missed the draw with Newcastle through illness and is a doubt for the visit of his former side.

Rashford should return to the XI and this will likely see Ronaldo drop to the substitutes bench.

Richarlison suffered an injury against Everton on Saturday and is ruled out here.

Spurs will likely deploy a 3-5-2 formation with Dejan Kulusevski unlikely to return.

Expected starting XI’s
Manchester United (4-3-3): De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casmeiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Anthony, Rashford, Sancho
Tottenham (3-5-2): Lloris; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Doherty, Bissouma, Hjojberg, Bentancur, Sessegnon; Kane, Son
